What an interesting program. Which one? Well, the one many people are watching, working on, and working in, called Games of Thrones on HBO in the U.S., from the book series by George R.R. Martin. This production started airing in 2011, and it is still going on in its latest season, 2019. I recently had an opportunity to watch several episodes. I understand its popularity in the world because of its imagined one. In addition to the mastery of art, seductive to the senses, production is noticeably providing something for everyone, from the acting, costumes, the graphic characteristics of primitive society, violence, culture, and sex, with twists of the macabre, requisite heroic stances, to the expansive imagination into the smallest of details. The acting, storytelling, and humanizing of the range of different beastly behaviors in imagined survival struggles, resembles an epic educational course on sociology, to me.
My world needed attention. I had to do the usual things like changing garage overhead light bulbs, product registration, taking a traveler to the airport, and of course, doing research for work. People called to tell me about the news of France’s Notre Dame Cathedral and its blazing fire. It was on many news stations. The centuries-old, beloved edifice with burning wooden beams plummeting down to the ground into ashes was a historical event in itself. The reporters praised the five hundred “Pompiers” (French for firefighters) for containing the massive fire and preventing casualties. I prayed for the architectural design, for the historical and future Notre Dame and searched for the French news on TV5Monde online. Prime minister Macron comforted the emotional crowd with promises of reconstruction and reparation. While reading the articles
and watching the video clips of reportage on Notre Dame, I surprisingly saw another clip of interest on the Game of Thrones. It was a well-timed coincidence since I had viewed episodes on the previous day.
The video clip shared the artistry of computer graphics and the precision of constructing the special effects in the scenes.
“Spoiler alert,” if you delight in the fantasy world of Game of Thrones, you might not want to be conscious of the reality of the creative process, the actual making of terrains and beasts because it could disturb the fantasy. If the technical work fascinates you, and you are curious to know how the scenes were populated and designed, the informational and educational content of the video clip will be pleasing. The intricate process reveals the careful creation, selection, and arrangement of many parts of the scenes, even to the tiniest individual shapes of dragon scales and the most significant crowd enhancement features. You can click the link and watch the video to marvel at the process of Computer Generated Imagery (CGI) which is undeniably fantastic for the Game of Thrones.
TV5Monde is a French website and an international network channel.
Inspirational imagination and art at work. Although the show is now on its 8th season, the clip is about the previous season.
